Vegan, Vegetarian, or Kosher Omnivore? Who is right? Which is the right diet? Today, like in the days of the believers in Rome, dietary issues remain important. What we see in Romans is personal views about diets become a man-made dogma to defend, protect, and use to judge others and this can be true in the believing community today. But what does God say about food and what is it that He already legislated? What He authorized is what we should rally around and be united in. Beyond that, and as it relates to personal views about diet, should we not extend grace and liberty to each other? Today we will look at the wisdom of the Apostle Paul and how he solved this painful problem in Rome and how we can solve similar problems in 2020.

Peter’s Vision in Acts 10 seems to be the “go to” passage for believers who want to eat detestable things like pig, shrimp, rat, snake, and bat. Along with Mark 7 (addressed in part two of this series) this passage is commonly misunderstood due to the vast majority of Catholic and Protestant scholars neglecting the Jewish background and Hebraic antecedent theological context of the Jewish Jesus, the Jewish Apostle Mark, and the Jewish Apostle Peter. When we read the Jewish Apostle Peter in his 1st century, Jewish theological and cultural context, we discover that his vision actually has to do with God's ability to cleanse kosher food and God's ability to cleanse the Gentiles not about cleansing forbidden unclean foods. In this teaching we will look at the words of Peter within their historical, cultural, and antecedent Jewish theological framework. This original context will be surprising and refreshing!

The Apostle Mark tells us that Jesus “declared all things clean” in regards to diet. Both Catholics and the vast majority of Protestant denominations interpret that to mean that all things are good for consumption including pig, rat, snake, and bat! In light of all of the devastating health issues associated with consuming things that God forbade, could we have misinterpreted this passage and its meaning for our food choices? Even bigger than that, if Jesus is doing away with these basic laws how can He be the Messiah? This widespread misinterpretation of the words of Jesus has wreaked havoc on our health and well being as well as made it very difficult for a Jew to consider Jesus as the Messiah. In this teaching we will look at the words of Jesus within their historical, cultural, and antecedent Jewish theological framework. The original context will be surprising and refreshing!

It is the ancient story of lawlessness, judgment, and deliverance through perseverance. Hanukkah begins in Daniel and is fulfilled in the record of the Book of the Maccabees as well as is referenced in the Gospels. Even Jesus took the time to travel (in the winter) to Jerusalem to reveal Himself as the long-awaited Messiah during this national festival. Thanks to Jesus, Hanukkah is fast becoming a popular celebration among His followers. Come join us and find out why!

Hanukkah Part 1: The Revelation of Jesus

Today, circumcision is not only deeply controversial but there are also social activists doing their best to have it banned via legislation. The Royal Dutch Medical Association in the Netherlands called for a ban on circumcision in 2010, stating that it is "medically unnecessary and violates children's rights."

Hanukkah is the Hebrew word for dedication. It is Israel’s annual winter celebration when all who are identified with Israel re-dedicate their lives to God as King and His Holy Law as a way of life. By the first century Hanukkah became known as the Festival of Light. Light could be taken literally or as a figure of speech referring to spiritual revelation and spiritual illumination happening during Hanukkah. It is noteworthy that during the Festival of Light, Jesus reveals Himself as the Messiah and that He is one with the Father. That Jesus took the time to travel to Jerusalem during Hanukkah and reveal Himself as the Divine Messiah is more than enough reason for us to re-dedicate our lives to God and His Holy Law during this season. For in Messiah, we too have become one with God!

The Royal Dutch Medical Association in the Netherlands called for a ban on circumcision in 2010, stating that it is "medically unnecessary and violates children's rights." What does God say about this? Would you be surprised to find out the command to circumcise is as relevant today as it was when He first instructed Abraham to do it? Many cite Paul to justify why it is not relevant for Gentile believers but this is a typical misreading of Paul. Reading Paul in his Jewish context sets the record straight. This command is full of blessing, for the Jew first and also the Gentiles.
